Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda aka Nguzunguzu are American Zurich- based artists/composers/ producers. Beginning in Chicago in 2007, their work spans from music, film, theater, animation, installation, fashion and the club. Notable works include multichannel spatial compositions for Wu Tsang films: Of Whales (Venice Biennale) , Anthem (Guggenheim), and La Gran Mentira de la Muerte (MACBA). They have released several EP’s, mixtapes, mixes, both jointly and individually. Celebrated DJ mixes include Moments in Mixtape which traced the migration of The Art of Noise’s “Moments in Love” sample and Perfect Lullaby Vol 1-3 featured on DIS Magazine.
They draw from an eclectic range of musical sensibilities from ambient ,jazz, noise , house, latin, dub, dancehall, and r&b cross pollinating and and creating mutant hybrids within the “hardcore continuum”. Sampling live acoustic instrumentation and field recordings, manipulating through tape, and layering in electronics creates new sonic atmospheres that shifts the meaning of the visible/ invisible. Mesmerized by the connections sound makes internally, externally, and socially, they continue to explore its powerful storytelling capabilities both behind the decks and on screen.
