Accessibility

As a public space in New York, Little Island is fully accessible to all New Yorkers and visitors. Our park is ADA compliant and our park staff are equipped to support your needs.

We are located in the Hudson River off of the West Side Highway with entrances at West 13th and 14th Streets. We recommend public transportation as the best method to get to Little Island. The park is accessible by numerous modes of transit:

Subway: The nearest subway stations are the A, C, E, and L trains located at 14th Street and 8th Avenue (ADA accessible); the 1, 2, and 3 trains located at 14th Street and 7th Avenue; and the F and M trains located at 14th Street and 6th Avenue.
Bus: The M11, M12, and M14D SBS buses stop at 14th Street and 10th Avenue.
Biking: If biking to Little Island, bike racks are located just north and south of the park entrances on the Hudson River Park esplanade, where you can secure your bicycle. Bikes are unfortunately not allowed on Little Island in the interest of keeping our space accessible to all visitors.
Citi Bike: The closest Citi Bike stations to Little Island are located along 10th Avenue on 14th Street and 15th Street. Alternatively, there are additional locations by The High Line on West 16th Street, as well as on the corner of Washington and Gansevoort Streets.
Taxi/Rideshare: Vehicles should drop off guests on 10th Avenue. There is also a taxi pick-up and drop-off location at Pier 57, just north of Little Island.

There are pedestrian crosswalks across the West Side Highway at 14th Street and 13th Street. Visitors may enter Little Island from the South Bridge near 13th Street or the North Bridge near 14th Street.

Little Island has an ADA accessible all-gender restroom available for use. All public restrooms are equipped with changing tables. Restrooms are located near The Glade just past the South Bridge entrance to the park. We encourage patrons to use any restroom that best aligns with their gender identity.

Little Island is ADA compliant and all areas are accessible using our pathways. The majority of our pathways are paved, but you will encounter dirt when you enter The Glade and grass if you choose to enter the lawns.

We have two loaner wheelchairs available. Please see our park staff if you would like to borrow a wheelchair during your visit. You must leave an ID with our park staff in order to borrow a wheelchair.

For events in The Amph, we have eight wheelchair and scooter-accessible locations available where patrons can remain in their wheelchairs. These locations are available at both the stage level and at the top of the theater. Please reserve this accommodation when you purchase your performance ticket. Wheelchair locations at the top of the theater are also available any time The Amph is open as public space.

Working dogs assisting patrons with disabilities are welcome at Little Island. Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed at Little Island, as our horticulture team works hard to maintain our garden beds and lawns that can be soiled by pet waste and activities. We’re a small park with a lot of visitors, and plenty of plants and flowers that need preservation.

Little Island is ADA compliant and all areas are accessible using our pathways.

You can listen to our Landscape Audio Tour, narrated by Little Island’s landscape architect Signe Nielsen and learn more about our landscape, or check out our History Audio Tour, narrated by Tony Award Winner André De Shields and immerse yourself in the history of the iconic Meatpacking District and Hudson River waterfront.

Breastfeeding is welcome in all areas of the park. There are no private breastfeeding lounges or lactation stations for electronic pumping. Refrigeration or heating of expressed milk or formula is not available.

A water bottle refill station is location just outside the restrooms and there are water fountains location by the south bridge and in The Play Ground.

ASL interpretation is available for several of our performances.

Assistive listening devices are available for performances in The Amph and The Glade. Please see a member of our park staff if you would like to borrow one.

If you are looking for a quieter time to visit, the months of November to March are usually the least crowded.

All Little Island performances are relaxed settings where patrons should feel welcome to make noise and move around as needed.
