Our Commitment to Community

Little Island is a public park and cultural home, built on the belief that nature and art belong to all. We are committed to serving the diverse communities of our city by expanding access to the arts and creating meaningful opportunities for employment.  Through our community initiatives, we strive to ensure that every New Yorker can engage with Little Island—whether as an audience member or as part of the team bringing the experience to life.

Community Ticketing Program

Our Community Ticketing Program partners with local organizations across New York City to provide free tickets to our ticketed performances, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to experiencing live art. In our first four years, we have distributed more than 43,000 free tickets—welcoming thousands of New Yorkers into the park. Current partners include the Department of Youth and Community Development, Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, and Fulton Houses, among others.

Workforce Programs

Each summer, Little Island offers three workforce programs that provide paid, hands-on experience across both the arts and park operations to young New Yorkers. Through our Usher Corps Program, Fellowship Program, and Emerging Producer Program, participants build professional skills, contribute meaningfully to the park’s events and daily operations, and explore the wide range of roles that power a vibrant public space.
