Uptown Forró (pronounced “fo-haw”) plays northeaster Brazilian music that celebrates the resilience of the working class, speaks of love and describes lighthearted scenes from Brazilian day-to-day life. Sing along to inviting call-and-response Coros, learn the septs of this Salsa+Tango-like dance style, and groove to its energetic percussive rhythms. Uptown Forró’s mission is to showcase this lesser-known Brazilian gem, and to share its joy with people from all walks of life.

Uptown Forró (pronounced “fo-haw”) is a group of Brazilian (and honorary Brazilian) New Yorkers dedicated to spreading the joy of Forró, a festive style of music and partner dance that has its roots in the Northeast of Brazil. Featuring Anne Boccato on voice and triangle, Ben Rosenblum on accordion, Hadar Noiberg on flute, Everton Isidoro and Rogério Boccato on percussion, the group plays infectious grooves and catchy Coro melodies wherever they go, and are sure to get you up and moving!

Through music that celebrates the resilience of the working class, speaks of love and describes lighthearted scenes from Brazilian day-to-day life, Forró captivates audiences worldwide with its inviting call-and-response Coros, its Salsa and Tango-like dance steps, and its energetic percussive rhythms. Uptown Forró’s mission is to showcase this lesser-known Brazilian gem, and to share its joy with people from all walks of life.
