Silvie Cheng is a Tokyo-born, Manhattan-based Chinese-Canadian pianist who specializes in classical & contemporary music. She has performed in esteemed halls on 5 continents, from the California Center for the Arts to Brussels’ Flagey, and the University of South Africa to Shanghai’s Poly Theatre. Her collaborations with living composers have led to nearly 50 premieres since 2010, in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Cornell University, and the National Gallery of Canada.
Silvie tours extensively as pianist of Cheng² Duo with her cellist brother Bryan—together they have released a trilogy of critically-acclaimed albums on German label audite: Russian Legends (2019), Violonchelo del fuego (2018), and Violoncelle français (2016). Meanwhile her artistic partnership with violist Georgina Rossi explores South American music; their debut album of contemporary Chilean music, Mobili (2020), was released on New Focus Recordings, with a sophomore album highlighting Brazilian music coming out spring 2023.
Silvie’s performances, recordings & interviews have been featured on WQXR, WCRB Classical Music Boston, BBC Radio Scotland, The Sunday Times (UK), CBC Radio, and Süddeutsche Zeitung (DE).
