Wardrobe Department Crew

We are seeking crew members with expertise in wardrobe, stitching, and/or hair & makeup to join the Artistic Programming Department. In this role, you will be responsible for handling, altering, and maintaining the costume elements for a variety of multi-disciplinary events and performances. A successful wardrobe crew member will be a versatile team player with a passion for supporting artistic needs, strong problem-solving skills, and experience working in performance settings. We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, prioritize safety, and embrace a spirit of hospitality in their work. These positions report directly to the Production Manager. 

Artistic Programming 
Little Island’s artistic programming is dedicated to creating new work in dance, theater, music, and opera. In 2024, the Island launched a commissioning program that featured nine world premieres from distinguished creators, including Twyla Tharp, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Davóne Tines, Henry Hoke, Pam Tanowitz, Britton Smith, Qween Jean, and Chris Thile. By collaborating with artists across genres and disciplines, the program aims to create unique collaborations and projects for our outdoor stages and help ensure their continued success in the future.

  • Schedule Expectations: The schedule will include frequent evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend shifts. 
  • Projected Start Date: May 12th, 2025 
  • Projected End Date: Week of October 13th, 2025

Wardrobe Department Role(s) and Hourly Rates 

  • Amph Wardrobe Supervisor: $35.00/hour  
    • Prepare, load-in, maintain, and load-out both fabricated and rental costumes to support Little Island programming. 
    • Serve as wardrobe run crew for all Amph productions. 
    • Supervise wardrobe overhire crew members on a show-by-show basis. 
  • Overhire Dresser: $32.50/hour 
    • Serve as overhire dresser as-needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs, and maintenance calls. 
  • Overhire Stitcher: $32.50/hour 
    • Serve as overhire stitcher as needed for project-specific tech processes and maintenance calls.  
  • Hair & Makeup Artist: $35.00/hour  
    • Serve as hair and makeup artist as needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs, and maintenance calls. 
    • Collaborate with designers and performers to establish and maintain character looks for duration of the show run. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Work closely with the Production Manager, Associate Production Manager, project-specific designers, and other Artistic Programming staff to ensure the successful execution of the wardrobe needs for a variety of events. 
  • Run wardrobe tracks during live performances, executing costume designs through alterations, fittings, and quick changes. 
  • Maintain wardrobe pieces between shows, including laundering, construction, and ironing or steaming as required. 
  • Collaborate with stage management and other run crew members to establish backstage tracks, quick-change locations, and seamlessly integrate wardrobe operations into Little Island’s shared backstage spaces. 
  • Follow Little Island’s safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe working environment. 
  • Participate in achieving Little Island’s artistic goals by providing consistent, high-quality production support for a wide range of events. 
  • Perform other duties related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned. 

What You Bring 

  • Relevant wardrobe experience, including hand sewing, clothing repairs, quick changes, quick rigging, and laundry. 
  • Knowledge of maintaining rental costume pieces and conducting fittings. 
  • Experience developing and documenting new wardrobe tracks. 
  • Interest in working in public performance settings, where guest interaction is a frequent part of day-to-day production activities. 
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, including but not limited to reaching, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time. 
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
