Stagehand: Electrics Department

We are seeking stagehands with a focus in lighting to join the Artistic Programming Department. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining lighting elements for a variety of multi-disciplinary events and performances.  

A successful electrics stagehand will be a flexible team member with a passion for supporting artistic needs, strong problem-solving skills, and experience in entertainment industry electrician work. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, prioritizes safety, and values hospitality in their work. These positions are governed by Little Island’s collective bargaining agreement with IATSE Local One and report directly to the Production Manager. 

Artistic Programming 
Little Island’s artistic programming is dedicated to creating new work in dance, theater, music, and opera. In 2024, the Island launched a commissioning program that featured nine world premieres from distinguished creators, including Twyla Tharp, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Davóne Tines, Henry Hoke, Pam Tanowitz, Britton Smith, Qween Jean, and Chris Thile. By collaborating with artists across genres and disciplines, the program aims to create unique collaborations and projects for our outdoor stages and help ensure their continued success in the future.

  • Schedule Expectations: The schedule will include frequent evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend shifts.

Electrics Department Role(s) and Hourly Rates 

  • Amph Lighting Operator: $40.00/hour 
    • Operate the lighting console for all Amph performances. 
    • Supervise setup, maintenance, and strike calls.  
    • Participate in daily stage setup, strike, and general equipment maintenance. 
    • Execute basic programming changes as required. 
  • Glade Lighting Operator: $35.00/hour through April 28th, 2025, then $35.96/hour 
    • Busk lighting designs for all Glade performances, collaborating with artists to support their creative vision. 
    • Participate in daily stage setup, strike, and general equipment maintenance. 
  • Production Electrician: $40.00/hour 
    • This role will supervise seasonal load-in and our first production from March 31st, 2025, to June 1st 2025, and will return on an ad hoc basis throughout the remainder of the season to support production changeovers.  
    • Collaborate with repertory and project-specific lighting designers to implement design, including completing cable orders and leading shop prep. 
    • Supervise seasonal and project-specific load-ins and load-outs. 
  • Electrics Overhire: $32.50/hour through April 28th, 2025, then $33.39/hour 
    • Serve as overhire electrics stagehand, board operator, or spotlight operator as-needed for project specific load-ins, load-outs, show runs, and maintenance calls. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Collaborate closely with the Production Manager, Associate Production Manager, project-specific designers, and other Artistic Programming staff to ensure the successful execution of the technical requirements for a variety of events. 
  • Prepare, load-in, maintain, and load-out lighting equipment on our outdoor stages, both for the season and on a day-to-day basis. 
  • Troubleshoot electrics equipment as needed. 
  • Work cross-departmentally on projects, including stage setup and general equipment maintenance. 
  • Adhere to Little Island’s safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment. 
  • Participate in achieving Little Island’s artistic goals by providing consistent, high-quality production support to a wide range of events. 
  • Perform other duties and tasks related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned. 

What You Bring 

  • Relevant lighting experience, including proficiency in programming, safe rigging practices, and general lighting system troubleshooting techniques.  
  • Experience programming and busking on ETC consoles. 
  • Familiarity with data networks and EOS Augment3d. 
  • Familiarity with RoboSpot followspot operation and maintenance is a plus. 
  • Interest in working in public performance settings where guest interaction is a regular component of day-to-day production activities. 
  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts) is a plus. 
  • The ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs overhead for sustained periods. 
  • Ability to safely ascend and descend ladders 
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
