Associate General Manager

Little Island is seeking an experienced, adaptable, and detail-oriented Associate General Manager to join the Artistic Programming team. This key position will support the General Manager in achieving the department’s administrative, operational, and financial goals, with a focus on artists contracts, budgeting, human resources, and compliance. The Associate General Manager will collaborate closely with the Business Affairs, HR, and Finance teams to ensure smooth execution of all departmental functions.  

This role is ideal for someone with a passion for the arts, a keen eye for detail, and an aptitude for collaborative problem-solving. The successful candidate will bring a thorough understanding of administrative systems and demonstrate the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively, particularly when engaging with artists and their representatives. Experience working across various artistic disciplines is highly encouraged.  

 

Artistic Programming 

Little Island’s artistic programming is dedicated to creating new work in dance, theater, music, and opera. In 2024, the Island launched a commissioning program that featured nine world premieres from distinguished creators, including Twyla Tharp, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Davóne Tines, Henry Hoke, Pam Tanowitz, Britton Smith, Qween Jean, and Chris Thile. By collaborating with artists across genres and disciplines, the program aims to create unique collaborations and projects for our outdoor stages and help ensure their continued success in the future.

  • Salary Range: $80,000-$85,000/year 
  • Position Type: Year-Round 
  • Employment Classification: Full-Time, Exempt 
  • Schedule Expectations: Monday through Friday, with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours. Flexibility is required.

What You’ll Do  

  • In collaboration with the General Manager, develop, negotiate, and oversee all Artistic Programming agreements, including commissions, employee, production, vendor, presenting and licensing agreements. Ensure alignment with Little Island’s contract administration policies and that expectations are clearly communicated. 
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with artists and their representatives, ensuring a positive experience throughout their engagement with Little Island. 
  • Oversee seasonal staff as needed, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and supporting their development throughout the season. Work closely with HR to ensure smooth integration into the team and compliance with policies, all while fostering a positive and productive work environment. 
  • Support the General Manager in the creation and management of the Artistic Programming budget, including leading the reconciliation process and maintaining accurate budget projections. 
  • Partner with the Finance team to draft, process, and execute financial documents such as artist payroll, contractor payments, union benefit payments, and expense reports. Ensure all transactions comply with internal policies. 
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications teams to gather assets, secure approvals, and verify artist information for promotional materials, press releases, and program credits. Ensure compliance with contractual crediting and industry standards.  
  • Assess and coordinate the feasibility of photo and video capture projects, securing necessary approvals and managing notices and clearances as needed. 
  • Collaborate with HR to support the hiring, onboarding, and management of Artistic Programming staff and contractors. Ensure compliance with policies related to employee relations, Worker’s Compensation, and the overall organizational culture. 
  • Provide detailed administrative support to the Artistic Programming department, ensuring systems are clear, consistent, and aligned with Little Islands’ larger organizational needs. 
  • Perform other tasks related to park operations as assigned by the General Manager. 

What You Bring 

  • 5+ years in general management, producing, or talent representation, with a focus on working with artists and creative teams across multiple disciplines. 
  • Strong skills in negotiating and administering contracts for artistic organizations, with a deep understanding of the artist experience. 
  • Proven experience in budget development and financial oversight, with a keen attention to detail. 
  • An ability to apply industry knowledge to a start-up environment and evolve new programming approaches. 
  • Passion for developing systems and processes that enhance cross-departmental efficiency while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. 
  • A commitment to Little Island’s mission and values, with a focus on supporting the creative process and the personnel involved. 
  • Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly. 
  • High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, including discretion and sensitivity when working with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Comfort with change and ambiguity, with the ability to navigate evolving situations effectively. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. 
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.

  • Park employees will spend time onsite at Little Island working in outdoor weather conditions, navigating the entire park multiple times a day, and interacting with park visitors to ensure operations are running effectively.
