Assistant Production Manager
We seek three (3) Assistant Production Managers to work alongside the Production Manager, Associate Production Manager, and the Artistic Programming Department in support of the planning and execution of Little Island’s artistic season. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver with excellent project management skills. Candidates with experience supporting a wide variety of artistic disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. This position reports to the Production Manager.
Artistic Programming
Little Island’s artistic programming is dedicated to creating new work in dance, theater, music, and opera. In 2024, the Island launched a commissioning program that featured nine world premieres from distinguished creators, including Twyla Tharp, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Davóne Tines, Henry Hoke, Pam Tanowitz, Britton Smith, Qween Jean, and Chris Thile. By collaborating with artists across genres and disciplines, the program aims to create unique collaborations and projects for our outdoor stages and help ensure their continued success in the future.

- Schedule Expectations: The schedule will include frequent evening, overnight, holiday, and weekend shifts.
- We will fill 3 roles with the following employment durations:
- February 10th, 2025 – October 17th, 2025
- March 24th, 2025 – October 3rd, 2025
- March 24th, 2025 – June 16th, 2025

What You’ll Do
- Serve as the Production Department’s on-site representative during site visits, load-ins, work calls, and performances, including nights and weekends. This includes:
- Supervising stagehand activity and ensuring compliance with Little Island’s work rules.
- Coordinating production activity with Little Island’s Operations team.
- Communicating the impact of real-time weather and technical developments to artists and other members of the Artistic Programming team.
- Lead production purchasing and sourcing efforts by:
- Researching and comparing suppliers, goods, and services.
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory levels.
- Tracking and reconciling expenses, including processing invoices and credit card charges.
- Traveling offsite for same-day purchase needs when required.
- Collaborate with stagehands to ensure backstage areas are organized and well-maintained.
- Supervise rehearsal room setup and strike activity, including the transportation of production materials and equipment between Little Island and off-site rehearsal spaces.
- Update the season calendar and production schedule using scheduling and project management software, in collaboration with the Artistic Programming Department.
- Facilitate clear communication with other Little Island departments and external collaborators, ensuring timely completion of vendor communications, stagehand onboarding, and routine administrative tasks.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols in collaboration with the Production Manager and Associate Production Manager.
- Implement and execute department processes and procedures related to transportation and reimbursement.
- Participate in the daily operations of all performance spaces during programming, providing direction and hands-on support during rehearsals, load-ins, and load-outs, equipment operation, emergencies, and maintenance activities as needed.
- Perform other tasks related to the park and its operations, as assigned by the Production Manager.
What You Bring
- 2+ years of administrative experience in production or a related field.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
- A passion for collaborating on new, original works in a unique outdoor venue.
- Proficiency with scheduling and project management software.
- A commitment to cross-departmental collaboration, ensuring a seamless and holistic experience for both visitors and guest artists, fostering camaraderie and connection.
- Adaptability and flexibility in responding to changing circumstances in a dynamic work environment.
- Experience working alongside a crew in theatrical or outdoor settings.
- Availability to work nights and weekends as required during the programming season.
- Comfort working in a variety of weather conditions, including light rain, summer heat, and in intermittent direct sunlight
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods, navigate stairs, and regularly lift 25 pounds
