Stagehand: Production Electrician

Little Island is home to three unique outdoor spaces for social gathering and live performance. We seek a Production Electrician to join the Artistic Programming Department to install and maintain the lighting elements for a variety of multi-disciplinary events and performances. A successful Production Electrician will be an adaptable team member with a passion for supporting artistic needs, strong problem-solving skills, and experience managing crews and solving technical challenges that occur during shop prep and load-in. They are self-motivated and prioritize safety and hospitality in their work. This role reports directly to the Production Manager.

About the Role

  • Hourly Rate: $35/hour-$40/hour
  • Exempt Status: Non-exempt
  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time
  • Schedule Expectations: Schedule will include frequent nights, overnights, holidays, and weekends
  • Projected Start Date: April 1st, 2024
  • Projected End Date: June 6th, 2024, with opportunity for overhire work as needed and available through the week of October 14th, 2024
  • Employment Duration:  If employed in a temporary position, candidates should note that they will need to reapply for any future positions and there is no presumption for rehire or reoccurring employment in subsequent seasons

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with the Production Manager, Associate Production Manager, project-specific designers, and other Artistic Programming personnel to ensure the successful execution of the technical needs for a variety of events
  • Generate all required paperwork to ensure successful execution of lighting design
  • Supervise shop prep, ensuring that equipment is prepared according to designer specifications
  • Oversee the load-in of lighting equipment into Little Island’s venues, ensuring that work is conducted in a safe manner
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager, Production Carpenter, and Production Audio to solve technical problems that arise during load-in
  • Troubleshoot electrics equipment as required
  • Collaborate on interdepartmental projects during load-in and tech
  • Work with design team during technical rehearsals to adjust lighting system to meet artistic goals
  • Utilize Little Island safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Participate in achieving Little Island artistic goals by providing consistent and high-quality production support to a wide range of events in three distinct performance venues in the park
  • Other duties and tasks related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned

What You Bring 

  • Relevant lighting experience, including safe rigging practices, networking, and general lighting system troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience reading and interpreting light plots
  • Familiarity with Lightwright
  • Experience with configuration of ETC consoles
  • Familiarity with RoboSpot followspot operation and maintenance a plus
  • Interest in working in public performance settings where guest interaction is a frequent component of day-to-day production activities
  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts)The ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs overhead for a sustained amount of time
  • The ability to ascend/descend ladders
  • Availability to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work in U.S.
