About the Role

Savory, Little Island’s food and beverage vendor, is seeking Porters, Cooks, Baristas, and Cashiers to join their team this season. The ideal team will be composed of tenacious and spirited individuals who enjoy making people smile while working with a wonderful team in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the season.


Key Responsibilities

Porter

Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen by washing equipment and utensils by:

  • Operating an industrial dishwasher, washing dishes and glassware by hand when necessary and promptly storing them in the appropriate places
  • Maintaining a clean and organized station; including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, garbage, stocking and restocking product and wrapping and storing product properly
  • Refilling Kitchen chemicals as needed
  • Having the ability to stand for shifts of 10+ hours at a time
  • Having the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Cook

Ensure guests receive the highest quality of food by:

  • Preparing all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
  • Following recipes and presentation specifications, as well as all health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products
  • Maintaining clean, organized workspace and a calm demeanor during periods of high volume
  • Anticipating customer needs by evaluating the environment and customers for cues.
  • Restocking items as needed throughout the shift
  • Having the ability to stand for shifts of 10+ hours at a time
  • Having the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Baristas

Supply friendly, cheerful, attentive, and prompt service to create an exceptional experience for all guests by:

  • Making, mixing, and pouring alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for guests
  • Serving guests at the bar and tables on the floor
  • Providing an excellent level of customer service to all guests, including making suggestions based on guest’s tastes and preferences, building a rapport with regular guests, and promoting and recommending menu options to guests
  • Following all food and beverage regulations for NYC and maintaining a clean and sanitary coffee bar that meets Department of Health standards
  • Having the ability to remain stationary for periods up to 8 hours in length
  • Having the ability to reach, bend, stoop and exert well-paced mobility
  • Having the ability to lift up to 20 pounds

Cashiers

Provide guests with friendly, cheerful, attentive, and prompt service by:

  • Taking guest orders and payments, relaying guest’s orders to the kitchen staff, and delivering orders to guests in a timely manner
  • Demonstrating a passion for hospitality through food, beverage, and culture
  • Tallying money in the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each work shift
  • Following all food and beverage regulations for NYC and maintaining a clean and sanitary bar that meets Department of Health standards
  • Assisting kitchen staff when needed
  • Ability to remain stationary for periods up to 8 hours in length.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop and exert well-paced mobility.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to use cash registers/Point of Sales systems.

What You Bring

  • An open and flexible schedule, specifically the availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, or early mornings
  • Enthusiasm for public space, experience working in a public or outdoor space a plus
  • Exceptional empathy, practiced listening skills and the ability to achieve peaceful conflict resolution
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a desire to learn
  • Experience prioritizing safety and an excellent standard of care
  • Comfortable working independently and with a team outside in a park-setting
  • Patience, adaptability and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations 

What to Expect 

  • Little Island will be open year-round, from 6am-1am daily.
  • Little Island has 3 distinct performances spaces hosting a wide variety of artistic programs throughout the season including a 700-seat amphitheater
  • Park employees will work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Park employees will spend time onsite at Little Island, navigating the entire park and interacting with park visitors to ensure operations are running effectively. Little Island is ADA compliant, and park employees are committed to fostering an inclusive environment for each other and our park’s visitors.
  • Little Island is opening its park for all New Yorkers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. All park employees are expected to actively participate in our communal commitment to employee safety and health and all related employee policies, which are reinforced with our current employees often and will be shared throughout the interview process.
