Lighting Programmer/Electrician (LX Op)

Little Island is home to multiple unique outdoor spaces for social gathering and live performance. We seek Lighting Programmers/Electricians (LX Ops) to join the Artistic Programming Department to install, operate, and maintain the lighting elements for a variety of multi-disciplinary events and performances. A successful LX Op will be an adaptable team member with experience in both programming and production electrician work and will have an eye for making design decisions when necessary. They are self-motivated and prioritize safety, hospitality, and collaboration in their work. This role reports directly to the Audio & Lighting Supervisor

About the Role

  • Hourly Rate: $35/hr 
  • Job Type: Full-Time, Temporary (averages 36 hours per week) 
  • Exempt Status: Non-exempt 
  • Schedule Expectations: Lighting Programmers/Electricians will be scheduled to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other flexible hours 
  • Projected Start Date: May 1, 2023 
  • Projected End Date: October 22, 2023

What You’ll Do 

  • Work closely with the Audio and Lighting Supervisor, Production Manager, and other Artistic Programming personnel to ensure the successful execution of the technical needs for a variety of events. 
  • Prepare, load-in, maintain, and load-out lighting equipment on our outdoor stages, both for the season and on a day-to-day basis. 
  • Provide support for rehearsals and live performances by independently programming and operating lighting consoles. 
  • Pivot from electrician to programmer as needed, while taking the initiative to alter designs based on real-time conditions. 
  • Direct small teams of 2-5 personnel on system installation and maintenance projects. 
  • Understand Little Island safety protocols and actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment. 
  • Participate in achieving Little Island artistic goals by providing consistent and high-quality production support to a wide range of events in our outdoor performance venues, The Glade and The Play Ground. 
  • Other duties and tasks related to the park and its artistic programming operations as assigned. 

What You Bring 

  • Relevant lighting experience, including programming knowledge, safe rigging practices, and general lighting system troubleshooting techniques. 
  • Experience busking on ETC consoles. 
  • Knowledge of aerial lift operation (including scissor lifts & articulating boom lifts) a plus. 
  • Interest in working in non-traditional performance spaces. 
  • Enthusiasm for responding to the dynamic nature of outdoor, event-based public performance. 
  • Commitment toward engaging in dialogue with members of the public, artists, and non-Production team members to both build relationships and enhance everyone’s day-to-day experience at Little Island. 
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. overhead for a sustained amount of time. 
  • Ability to ascend/descend ladders. 
  • Availability to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Ability to work in US.

  • Park employees will spend time onsite at Little Island working in outdoor weather conditions, navigating the entire park multiple times a day, and interacting with park visitors to ensure operations are running effectively.
